In life & business, it is not just about knowing when to say “no”, it is also about knowing when to say “yes”.
It all boils down to having an open and grateful outlook on life, people will naturally want to help others, including you, and when you can, you will want to help others back. Having a negative outlook like being suspicious of the reason someone is trying to help you, or thinking that no one will do something that doesn’t benefit themselves – that thinking minimizes your life, your potential to grow and become a better person.
When I first started, I got a lot of help, not from friends but from random strangers from chance meetings, it seems like the universe just put them there for a reason at the right time.
There was this 55+ year old businessman, Mr. Low, who popped into my office out of the blue back in 1996, just before I stepped out of employment, he bought every program I did, every time I started on something new, providing me just enough to sustain my cash flow. He didn’t need it, he just wanted to help. There was this other guy in the early days that provided me consulting jobs created out of thin air whenever he saw me struggling, his name was Chris. Those are just two. There were many more, they popped in briefly, helped, vanished.
All they wanted was for me to remember to pay it forward one day. These individuals are the inspiration behind our annual sponsorship of a deserving individual starting out in business.
