Excellence vs Perfection

A very short but interesting one this week.

One client complained for almost 30 minutes this week, of how having daily checklist & morning briefing for staff “didn’t work” for him… how they are still making the same irritating mistakes daily, etc…

I stopped him and asked, how many items in the daily checklist and how many mistakes per day?

His answer? 50+ items, the number of mistakes, 1-2.

So I said wow, you mean they are performing at 94-96% competency?

That got him stumped for a while…

To strive for excellent staff performance is good, to aim for perfection is foolish, what the heck, if we are completely honest with ourselves, is anyone of us here operating at 94-96% competence and efficiency all the time?

Have a great week ahead!
